WOVR Inspections for Motorcycles in Perth
Motorcycle Masters is an authorised WOVR Inspection Centre. This page explains what a WOVR inspection involves, what documentation you'll need, and how to prepare.
What is a WOVR Inspection?
WOVR stands for Written-Off Vehicle Register. In Western Australia, certain vehicles that have been declared a write-off (either repairable or statutory) are recorded on the WOVR register.
A WOVR inspection is required before a repairable write-off motorcycle can be re-registered for use on public roads. The inspection confirms that the motorcycle has been properly repaired and meets applicable safety requirements.
WOVR inspections are documentation-sensitive. If required documents are missing or incomplete, the inspection may not be able to proceed. Please read this page carefully before booking.
When is a WOVR Inspection Required?
You will generally need a WOVR inspection if your motorcycle:
- Has been declared a repairable write-off and you wish to re-register it
- Is listed on the Western Australian WOVR register
- Has been subject to a Department of Transport direction requiring inspection
Statutory write-offs (those declared unroadworthy beyond repair) cannot be re-registered for road use in WA. If you are unsure of the status of your motorcycle, contact the Department of Transport.
Before Your WOVR Inspection
WOVR Inspection Fee
A WOVR inspection costs $280 and takes approximately 2 hours. If a re-inspection is required, the re-inspection fee is $140.
Documentation Required
To book a WOVR inspection at Motorcycle Masters, you will need to provide the following:
- Original purchase receipt, showing the VIN number and confirming payment in full. If privately purchased, also bring the seller's name, address and driver's licence number. If purchased as an insurance company buy-back, bring the payout receipt.
- Original receipts for any parts purchased — originals only, no photocopies. Receipts for second-hand parts must include the donor motorcycle's VIN number, where possible, and the seller's name.
- Original colour photos of the motorcycle's damage before repairs were carried out, showing the full motorcycle from all sides, as individual photos (not a collage).
- Colour photos of the motorcycle while repairs were being carried out, as individual photos (not a collage). If the motorcycle was purchased from a third party with no repair photos available, this must be stated in the statutory declaration.
- Details of any parts used from a donor motorcycle, including the donor motorcycle's VIN number and the parts used, stated in the statutory declaration.
- A signed statutory declaration outlining all repairs carried out on the motorcycle, including the motorcycle's VIN number. Use the Statutory Declaration form (WA Government) ↗.
Original documents and photos only — photocopies are not accepted. Arriving without the required documentation may mean the inspection cannot proceed.
Preparing Your Motorcycle
In addition to documentation, ensure your motorcycle:
- Starts and runs correctly
- Has working lights, indicators and horn
- Has serviceable tyres and functioning brakes
- Has no visible fluid leaks
- Has clearly visible and legible VIN, chassis and engine numbers
- Is clean and accessible for thorough inspection
The WOVR Inspection Process
The general process for getting a written-off motorcycle back on the road in WA involves the following steps. Confirm current requirements with the Department of Transport, as processes can change.
- Confirm that the motorcycle is listed as a repairable write-off (not a statutory write-off) and is eligible for re-registration
- Complete all required repairs to a standard that meets Department of Transport requirements
- Gather all required documentation, including repair evidence and parts receipts
- Book your WOVR inspection at Motorcycle Masters
- Attend the inspection with the motorcycle and all required documentation
- If the inspection is passed, you can proceed to the Licensing Inspection Service
Re-Inspections
If additional documentation is required, or if the motorcycle does not meet the required standard at inspection, a re-inspection may be necessary. Re-inspection fees apply.
If you are aware of outstanding issues before your appointment, contact us to discuss — it may be more efficient to address these before booking the inspection.

How do I know if my motorcycle is on the WOVR register?

A WOVR inspection costs $280. If a re-inspection is required, the re-inspection fee is $140.
What happens after the inspection is completed?
